THE TREND: ROUND TABLES

Cheerful gatherings: what do you associate that with?
For years, rectangular tables were used in dining areas, certainly also due to the specificities of contemporary architecture. Now round tables are back! I remember when, some 20 years ago, a table of 220 cm length was considered ‘quite large’. Now we plan tables with a length of 3 meters and more, a trend which clearly shows how important social interaction at the table have become for all of us, also at home. Interior design reflects the spirit of the times and subtly reflects developments in society. Hence it is understandable that round and oval tables are now experiencing a revival. Why?

Ground plans become more open and straight lines give way to FLOWS. Round and oval tables symbolise togetherness and, in evolutionarily terms, correspond to sitting around the fire, in a circle. This means that different conversations can take place at round, rather than at angular tables, where people sit opposite each other and form a kind of front, so to speak. Stories and experiences demand that we share and pass them on. Nowhere else is this better achieved than at a round table in a convivial atmosphere!

How and where to start? Tips from wellness experts:
Round and oval tables should have a central foot as this allows to freely arrange the number of people at the table. For 4 people, a table with a diameter of 90cm is sufficient, for 6 people 120cm, for 8 people 160cm and for 10 people, one with a diameter of 2 meters. These figures should however be seen as a mere indication, since the size of the chairs must also be taken into account. Large upholstered dining chairs with armrests need much more space than a simple wooden chair without them.
Never combine chairs with straight backrests at a round or oval table, but always those with rounded or round backs. Round or oval dining tables are ideal for open areas without strict lines and can visually weaken purist room layouts.
